Bikmo bike insurance – Club offer

Blaydon Cycle Club have teamed up with Bikmo to get an exclusive 5% discount on their cycle insurance for our members.

Those of us that already insure with Bikmo have been massively impressed with all the features that come as standard, the simplicity and the pricing.
You get cover for racing, accidental damage, theft, travel and crashing.
They also give a kickback to the club helping the club grow!
Use the code: BLAYDON5 to get a 5% discount

Online Security

A very quick reminder about your online safety and security.

There’s recently been a few cycle thefts in the north east and one avenue thieves use is your online presence to gather intelligence on where you live, when you’re out and what bikes you might have.

A new tactic seems to be Setting up false online profiles to find out more about riders and their habits.

Here’s a few points to consider:

  • Do you know who you’re adding on Twitter/Facebook/Strava etc
  • How secure is your profile, is it open, closed, readable to anyone
  • Have you set up privacy zones on ride tracking apps?
  • Do you often post where you ride or where you go?
  • Is your bike storage secure (do you have locks, ground anchors, alarms?)
  • Is your bike stamped and serial numbers noted, as well as any individual features noted and photographed?

Membership Reminder / Clarification

It’s come to our attention a few people are confused as to what they have to pay, hopefully we can clear this up.

ALL Blaydon CC fees are due this is the money that goes direct to us, you either paid us £10 last Jan-June or £5 later in the year. Basically everyone with a 2015 membership is ‘reset’ on 1/1/16.

2016 rates have increased to £15 a year (or £25 joint) which is great value still. This is in line, if not cheaper than many other clubs of a similar size and it 2016 we have some big events and need capital to host them, In turn this helps the club grow, 2016 is going to be our biggest year and it’s going to be a lot of hard work behind the scenes above what you may see on the ground! (some say it’s a full time job running a club, it really can be!)

Some of you may have to re-join British Cycling this can be any time of the year, for some it’s the same day as you joined the club because you joined BC with a Blaydon CC Discount code for your first year. We of course recommend you ALL join British Cycling for a number of reasons. (legal cover and development of the sport for two), please not your British Cycling expiry date will be on your dashboard and membership card, again this is highly likely to be different to your club membership.

Any questions please shout up

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year

Good afternoon everyone, just a very quick post to wish our members and everyone else who’s been a part of the club in any way a Merry Christmas and our best wishes for the new year.

2015 was probably the first ‘big’ year for the club, we’ve had great success with our club, development and easy wheelers ride, we’ve had success in Time Trials and races and we wish to grow on that in the new year. We’ve been to Scotland ‘on tour’, been abroad, we’ve cycled the length of England on the coast to coast. and done many many events.

We’ve loads planned for next year so keep your eyes open on our news feed. For now, enjoy Christmas and we’ll see you all soon.

reminder: Joining us for 2016

We’ve had a few people ask how to join. It’s very easy! Click the button below!

BC-AFFILIATED-CLUB

2016 is going to be a great year for the club, with 2 strong years behind us we’re up to a shed load of great stuff as we continue to push forward to making BCC one of the largest growing clubs in the region. Membership is £15 for an individual or £25 for a couple. in 2016 we are also for our first year ‘adopting’ a charity and we’ve picked one close to cycling community which is the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS).

our membership year is 1st January until 31st December, so why not make it your new year resolution to join us, or renew and get the year off to a good start.

GNAAS to become Club 2016 charity

On behalf of the BCC Committee I’d like to announce the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS)
as the Club’s adopted charity.
As a cycling club we are all too aware of the risks the roads and hills present and, sadly, many of us have at some time witnessed or known an occasion when the Air Ambulance has saved the lives of loved ones, friends and acquaintances.
We are all very aware of the fantastic service they offer and know that one day it might be our turn to be saved.
The JustGiving page can be found here and will be open for donations at any time: www.justgiving.com/blaydoncycling or bit.ly/blaydoncharity
Events and appeals will be organised throughout the year, so please give as generously as you can. Details of these events will be published in our usual way through our social media channels.
We hope you are all as enthusiastic as we are with the decision to support them.

Regards,

Blaydon Cycle Club Committee

We’re almost at 500 facebook likes, please spread the word visit us at facebook.com/blaydoncycling.

Here you will find the clubs main social media presence, we offer rides for riders just starting off right up to budding racers, we have over 100 members and counting and we’re making noise with some great achievements over the season in various disciplines.  We’re very laid back and have a thriving and active membership both on rides and on our members on-line chat areas.

If you or someone you know is into cycling, or would like that little push to get into it, come and join us for a ride and see what we do. We’ve grown from an initial 9 members in 2013 to 100+ with people of all abilities, all interests and all with a wealth of things to share.

as the traditional ‘off season’ starts we’ll still be here building up to the start of the 2016 season where we have big plans in the making. There’s never been a better time to become a part of a North East club that’s getting bigger, and better every time a new member signs up. You can be a part of it and we look forward to seeing you. We’re going places.

We meet at multiple times through the week check bit.ly/blaydonevents for a full list of club activity within the coming weeks.
