For our next ride we hope to try the coast ride again, however a backup route is in place just in case the weather is poor. Updates through the usual channels. Event to your right in the tool bar, or here

Blaydon Jersey Update:

In a week: Blaydon Cycling Winter Meeting & Jersey Update

Just a little reminder a week today, we will be meeting at La Taverna (our usual meeting spot) for a little meeting to discuss what 2014 is to bring for BCC.

If you have any suggestions to add to the meeting agenda please post them below on the website or email us We’ll discuss anything on the list to try and come up with a plan for 2014.

Please make sure you let us know if you are coming as we will have limited space booked at La Taverna.

Update on jerseys: as of Monday/Tuesday we were informed of a small delay, this was due to the jersey tops still drying from the sublimation process of printing. we hope to have them ready for Sunday’s ride if not the meeting, further updates will come via the usual channels.

Coast Ride: 26/1/14

The coastal ride is still due to go ahead, the weather says expecting a little wind and rain. We’ll keep the pages updated with the information. If the ride is to be cancelled if the weather turns we will post on website, twitter & facebook the evening before. We do not foresee this happening due to the forecast so far.

This meeting will be held at the above date at the above time. please let us know via email ,twitter, Facebook or here (below) if you are coming

We have booked a table at La Taverna for our meeting to discuss 2014. What we want to get out of the year, full blog on this is here.

we have around 20 questions seeking feedback, notes will be taken, and a report typed up on what people want to see etc.

Our 2nd Mountain Bike Ride.

Sunday the 19th January is set to be our second Mountain Bike ride, it’s on our ‘spare week’ so existing road cycling rides are not affected. It’s a ‘there and back’ ride as opposed to our usual ‘loop’ rides. basically this to keep it all off road and suitable for the MTB.

the elevation profile looks scary but it’s a gradual climb there up to 1500ft and quite a nice rolling downhill all the way back.

We would be meeting at our usual 0900 time this time due to route at Rowlands Gill Park. (NOT La Taverna)

As per all rides we will set of about 0915, taking a steady pace all the way on the C2C route and have a cafe stop at Parkhead Station Tea Room. Please bring suitable cash for the stop and as usual we recommend you wear a helmet for this ride and bring suitable spares and tools.

Facebook event link is here. and also to the right of this page, all welcome, any questions please ask below or on twitter / facebook.

Report: BCC 10

12/01/14 0900 – La Taverna.

for our 10th ride we clocked up a very cold ride of around 45 miles. Right from the off the roads were frosty and icy so great care needed to be taken, after an initial start getting caught (typically) in temporary traffic lights most of us were off.

The roads were fine through Ryton, Down to Wylam had a few patches then everything was rideable until just before stocksfield. We had our first casualty of the ice. A rip to the shorts and a scuff to the bike and we were off again.

We took the main road as a diversion to Corbridge as that would probably have been safer for the run and less icy, a long push into Corbridge fragmented the group a little and we eventually met back in Blanchland at the cafe and set off in two groups home after a cuppa. One of the group had to be rescued by car due to aggravating a sports injury from a few days ago. Other than the early ice spill, the ride went with out any major concern.

The first group sped back to La Taverna at quite a pace, although cold managed to increase their average. The back group took their time on the icy roads and realized just how cold it was out there.

a great turn out for such poor weather, and everyone in high spirits and enjoyed defrosting after the ride in La Taverna.. and finally… great views on today’s ride. right on Blaydon’s Doorstep.
