Fast? Slow? Somewhere in between?
Different cyclists have different needs, that is just the way of things. Some want to ride hard and push themselves, some want to race, and others are happy sauntering along at a gentle pace while enjoying the companionship of a social ride.
Established in 2013, Blaydon Cycling Club aims to cater for as wide a membership as possible while priding ourselves on our friendly approach to cycling.
Ultimately, our simple aim is to get as many people on their bikes as possible……..and enjoying it!
Road Cycling? Triathlon? Gravel Riding?
Cycling offers many disciplines and Blaydon was originally focussed on road cycling. However, times change and these days, we find ourselves catering to a more diverse range of cycling activities. The club has a strong time trialling contingent, the Triathlon side has grown rapidly in recent years and we also have a burgeoning interest in gravel riding. The club organises and runs events via our members’ forums which cater for all three disciplines .
Group Rides Suited to Your Ability
We have three regular riding groups and you are very welcome to move between them. Please just be sure that your ability matches the rough average speeds for any particular group.
Social Rides – Very gently paced rides to provide a friendly group environment for club members and non-members alike. Essentially, the cafe stop is probably just as important as the ride, if not more so! Nobody is ever dropped on these rides.
- Pace: Approx 12 – 14mph
- Distance: Approx 25 – 45 miles
- No Drops
Group B – Rides that are designed to not so fast or hard that you can’t enjoy a good natter with the rider next to you. There will probably be a few efforts or inter-group contests at some stage but generally speaking, these are enjoyably friendly excursions.
- Pace: Approx 15 – 16mph
- Distance: Approx 40 – 75 miles
- No Drops
Group A – Rides for the fast lads and lasses, you could say, “The Blaydon Racers”. These are our fastest groups with a rapid pace and a lot of hard, full gas efforts. Be prepared to take your turn on the front, there are no slackers here!
- Pace: Approx 17 – 19mph
- Distance: Approx 40 – 85 miles
We have a very relaxed approach to the Club’s operation allowing for great freedom and scope in Club activity, particularly when it comes to ability levels. Far from throwing everyone together and hoping you keep up, we have a number of groups with their own activities from very gently-paced Social Rides to Club Runs with groups for different abilities/paces.
Whether you are completely new to cycling, someone who enjoys the leisure side of cycling, a commuter, or an out and out racer, we have a group to suit you. At present due to British Cycling guidelines and club liability issues, we can only accept riders aged 18+ please contact us with any questions regarding this. We may look into youth riding in the near future so stay tuned to our website and social media channels.
